s. 5–19; pp. 5–19
Summary: p. 18; Streszczenie: s. 18; Zusammenfassung: S. 19

This study is based upon the analysis of various sources, mainly official documents, personal papers and literary materials (school regulations, letters, student books, autobiographies, diaries, student debates, various types of literature written for a specific occasion, etc.). One of the issues of interest is the description of the circumstances surrounding the creation of the school in Brzeg (the reasons for which duke George II decided to form said school, the funds enabling it to function, the facilities, the curriculum, the faculty, etc.). The other issue is the connection the duke had with Czech lands, although this study concerns mostly the pupils who came from the nobility of Czech and Moravia. The author considers not only the reasons which led the parents or guardians to send their children to a school in Silesia, but also how important their schooling in Brzeg was to their overall education. The author also describes some aspects of the normal, everyday lives of students born in Czech lands, such as their lodgings, and analyses their geographical, social, religious, and national origins. These studies are, however difficult due to the fragmentary nature of source materials (such as the school in Brzeg) thus their results have approximate character only.
